Three Poems by Alaska's New Writer Laureate, Nora Marks Dauenhauer

Alaska’s new State Writer Laureate Nora Marks Dauenhauer will appear tonight in our first Crosscurrents event of 2013 for an onstage conversation with Diane Benson: Tuesday, February 19 at 7 pm at the Wilda Marston Theatre, Loussac Library. We’re pleased to bring you this event in partnership with the Anchorage Public Library and Alaska Writers Guild. As a preview, Nora has kindly allowed us to present three of her poems here:

Granddaughters Dancing

Granddaughters dancing,
blossoms
swaying in the wind.

Museum

Alaska Native youth
flickering
in strobelight:
disco diorama.

Wealth
        --for all Tlingit women
who slice fish for the smokehouse

Slime squishing
through gold and silver bracelets:
women slicing salmon.
